d_rradio began releasing recordings in 2003. Their odd name (pronounced D. R. Radio) stands for deathrowradio - the perfect moniker for a music whose intention is to bring comfort and light to the most dark and difficult hours. Thriving on beautiful organic melodies and digital soundscapes, d_rradio's first public ventures were lugubriously soporific affairs. 'Some Other Time', d_rradio's track from a spilt 7" with Marcia Blaine School For Girls on the Awkward Silence label, was followed two months later by the 'Dust And Guitars' 7" on Static Caravan - both of which received excellent reviews, regular airplay from Brother Peel and sold out super fast. Next was a very limited lathe-cut 7" - again on the Static Caravan label, the music chronologically pre-dating the other singles. Entitled 'Perfect For The Fall' / 'Ice On The Path', this lathe-cut sold out even faster - copies now achieving tidy sums on the rare occasions they come up for sale.

Staying with Static Caravan for their debut album 'U_nderscore', d_rradio showed that they were by no means a one-trick pony. 'U_nderscore' was plainly drawing from a very wide palette and came out sounding like an absurd mix of the most joyous moments in your favourite late-night records and yet simultaneously like nothing else before it. Growing in popularity still, and with just 1,000 copies pressed worldwide, 'U_nderscore' is also becoming quite a gem to hold onto.

The first Distraction release, d_rradio's first official release since 'U_nderscore', shows that although their dreamy escapism may suggest otherwise, the band refuse to sit still and they continue to successfully avoid being pigeon-holed. 'Born' / 'Come To Light', the first in a series of three Distraction 7"s, is full of lively motion, yet at its heart lies the same tear-jerking, heart-wrenching orchestration of the previous releases. Second in the series, 'Dear John / Pick Me Up' sees them heading even further into new emotional terrain, with dark and funky space-blues giving way to heady electronic beats. And last but not least, 'Out Of Love / You Hold My Breath': a twisted late night electro dub with an underwater neon glow; tranquil, drippy and liquid, its deep space production is razor-sharp, clean and precise.

With their powerful live shows including sublime and beautiful live video mixing, seeing d_rradio perform is fast becoming one of the most transcendental legal experiences going. As we feel the countdown accelerating, the time has never been better to tune in and take comfort in deathrowradio.

D_rradio (or Death Row Radio) make music with a graceful, timeless sound and a joyously mesmerizing feel. Minimal, warm and widescreen in production, the melodies and rhythms have a subtle lightness of touch and a melancholic sense of hope. Difficult to pin down and easy to fall in love with, this music has a clear intention; to make you feel alive.
