WHAT IS CIELO LIQUIDO? (ENGLISH)

Cielo Líquido is a radio show that consists, basically, in the musical choice and commentaries of the undersigned, an extremenian, citizen of Don Benito, called Fernando Pérez-Cáceres Herrero (born 1965). In the musical field, I tend to present myself dropping whimsically from my full name the second part of my compound first surname.Everyone's got their little quirks.

I have been doing Cielo Líquido -or shows with similar contents-, on and off, since 1984, right when, at the age of 18, I was awarded First Prize for musical presenters called by the now extinct Radio Cadena Española in the town of Cáceres.

From that moment on, having a passion for music and the radio, I decided to combine both things in a radio experience that seeks to be select and specialized, as well as totally devoted to showing part of the best sounds of our times in their multiple and varied trends: pop, rock, folk, punk, hardcore, noise, experimental, electronica, new wave, shoegaze, indie, postrock, posthardcore, country, sicodelia, along with a list of proposals and genres.

My inspirations, as regards radio presenting, have always been, mainly, the first days of Radio 3. I'm talking about the 80's heyday, and in particular, Mr. Rafael Abitbol.For ten years, (1979-89) Rafael Abitbol and his "Rock 3" were my daily and unavoidable rendezvous. In 1988, when Abitbol was unfairly dismissed from Radio 3, I stopped listening to that radio station forever, but I still keep dozens of tapes recorded with the stuff he presented in his show, along with the notes I used to jot down while listening to Radio 3. Before getting to know him, I already loved music but it was he who -as well as disclosing hundreds of bands and artists to me- transmitted me his passion for making radio, for trying to someday select the music I like and comment on it. The indelible memory of him is a permanent stimulus, a continous referent that encourages me to get better each day.In my opinion, Rafa Abitbol has been the greatest music presenter in our country, and the only one that has lived up to the level of the most specialized dj's of the BBC. These, by the way, have also inspired me, in particular and above them all, the biggest ever, Mr. Jonh Peel. I think that further explanations are unnecessary. After Abitbol, he was the only one to arouse in me those old feelings when listening to the radio, the only one who managed to send me into the same rapture and make me enjoy the radio at its most.

But let's go back to Cielo Líquido... Over the last few years, the show has grown enormously, and has acquired some prestige, both national and internationally. Especially after the emergence of the show on the Internet in January 2003.The show has even been the subject of quite a few articles in webzines and fanzines and has also been linked to numerous music bands and record labels' websites.Likewise, artists and bands from all over the world make from time to time exclusive and special recordings -sessions- that they send to the show to be broadcast in the style of the best BBC programmes.

However, the turning-point of the show was to arrive the last month of March 2006. It was then that the persons in charge of the new public radio station in Extremadura -Canal Extremadura Radio- decided to include Cielo Líquido in its programme schedule, which, apart from the Internet broadcasting, means broadcasting on FM for the whole of Extremadura region (and other bordering lands), and therefore, the corresponding huge rise in audiences.

The current broadcasting timetable of Cielo Líquido is as follows: Monday to Friday, from 11..00 pm to midnight (GMT +1) with redifusion of the show from 05.00 am to 06.00 am.

To conclude, I would like to mention certain features of the show to make it serve as a reminder...
1. I only programme international music-not Spanish.I play the songs in full.I never interrupt a song with my comments.
2. I present neither covers nor live recordings.I always play originals.I don't download music.
3. Very rarely do I present compilations.
4. I never do interviews on air.
5. As a general rule, I only present the latest releases-albums from the current year or the year before.
6. There are more rules, but I can't remember right now.

¿QUÉ ES CIELO LIQUIDO? (ESPAÑOL)

Cielo Líquido es un producto radiofónico que consiste básicamente en la selección musical y los comentarios del que suscribe, un extremeño, ciudadano de Don Benito (Badajoz) llamado Fernando Pérez-Cáceres Herrero (1965).Para identificarme musicalmente suelo dejar caer caprichosamente de mi nombre completo la segunda parte del primer apellido compuesto.Manías que tiene uno.

Vengo haciendo Cielo Líquido (o programas de similar contenido) de forma intermitente desde 1984, justo el momento en el que a la edad de 18 años, conseguí ganar el primer premio de comentaristas musicales convocado por entonces en la ciudad de Cáceres por la, ahora desaparecida, Radio Cadena Española.

Desde aquel momento, siendo un apasionado de la música y de la radio, decidí conjugar ambas cosas en una aventura radiofónica, que pretende ser selecta y especializada, y dedicada por completo a mostrar parte de los mejores sonidos de nuestro tiempo en sus múltiples y variadas vertientes: pop, rock, folk, punk, hardcore, noise, ambient, experimental, electrónica, new wave, shoegaze, indie, postrock, posthardcore, country, sicodelia y un largo etcétera de propuestas y géneros.

Mis influencias radiofónicas siempre han sido básicamente los primeros tiempos de Radio 3.Me refiero a la época gloriosa de la década de los 80 y sobre todo a Rafael Abitbol.Durante diez años (1979-1988), Rafa Abitbol y su Rock 3 fueron para mí cita diaria e ineludible.En 1988, cuando Abitbol fue expulsado y depurado miserablemente de Radio 3, dejé de escuchar esa emisora para siempre, pero tengo todavía decenas de cintas grabadas con las cosas que él ponía en su programa y conservo un buen puñado de cuadernos con los apuntes que tomaba mientras escuchaba Rock 3.Antes de conocerle, yo ya amaba la música, pero fue él quien (además de descubrirme cientos de bandas y artistas) me trasmitió la pasión por hacer radio, por intentar algún día seleccionar la música que más me gustara con rigor y criterio y comentarla con la máxima dignidad y seriedad.Su imborrable recuerdo es un permanente estímulo, una referencia continua que me impulsa a superarme día a día.A mi juicio, Rafa Abitbol ha sido el mejor comentarista musical de nuestro país, y el único que ha estado al nivel (o incluso por encima) de los mejores djs especializados de la BBC.Estos, por cierto, son mi otra influencia radiofónica.Hablo de gente como Steve Lamacq, Adam Walton, Vic Galloway, John Kennedy, etc.Pero en concreto y por encima de todos ellos, el que fue el más grande... Mr.John Peel.Creo que sobran explicaciones al respecto.Tras Abitbol, fue Mr.Peel la única persona que logró crear en mí las mismas sensaciones al escuchar la radio.El único que logró atraparme con la misma intensidad y que me hizo disfrutar al máximo con ese medio de comunicación al que adoro.

Volvamos a Cielo Líquido...En los últimos años el programa ha crecido enormemente, y ha ido adquiriendo progresivamente cierto prestigio nacional e internacional sobre todo tras la irrupción del programa en Internet (enero del 2003).El programa ha sido objeto incluso de algún que otro artículo en webzines y fanzines, y ha sido linkeado (perdón por el palabro) con muchas webs musicales, de múltiples grupos, sellos discográficos, etc.

Asimismo, formaciones y bandas de todo el mundo realizan ocasionalmente grabaciones exclusivas y especiales (sesiones) que envían al programa para que sean emitidas (al estilo de los mejores programas de la BBC británica)

Pero evidentemente el momento más importante del programa se producía en Marzo del 2006.Fue entonces cuando los responsables de la nueva emisora pública de Extremadura (Canal Extremadura Radio) decidieron incluir a Cielo Líquido en su parrilla diaria de programación, lo que aparte de la emisión en Internet, significa emisión en la FM para toda Extremadura (y otras tierras limítrofes), y por tanto el correspondiente y descomunal aumento de audiencia..

El Horario actual de Cielo Líquido en Canal Extemadura Radio es el siguiente: De lunes a viernes desde 23.00 horas hasta la medianoche, con repetición del programa para los insomnes entre las 5.00 y 6.00 de la madrugada.

Por último sólo para clarificar las cosas me gustaría recordar ciertas características del programa…
1) Sólo programo música internacional.Pongo las canciones enteras.No piso la música con mis comentarios.
2) No programo versiones. Tampoco pongo música en directo.Sólo programo discos originales, no copias.No me descargo música.
3) Sólo muy excepcionalmente programo recopilatorios.Tampoco me gustan.
4) Nunca hago entrevistas en radio.
5) Generalmente sólo programo novedades (discos como máximo del año en curso o anterior)
6) Hay más reglas, pero no las recuerdo ahora.
